For Students

Are you a student interested in earning credits for active participation in BEMC Talks and JClubs?

It is possible for doctoral students to collect ECTS credits within the Doctoral Student Environment (“Promotionsumgebung”) of the Charité* for active participation in BEMC Talks, BEMC JClub or both. Please note that the BEMC does not offer CME credits.

To earn 1 ECTS point, students must attend a total of 5 BEMC Talks and/or JClub meetings within two years AND meet active participation requirements for each session, as detailed below.

To earn 2 ECTS points, students must attend a total of 10 BEMC Talks and/or JClub meetings within two years AND meet active participation requirements for each session, as detailed below.

To earn 3 ECTS points, students must attend a total of 15 BEMC Talks and/or JClub meetings within two years AND meet active participation requirements for each session, as detailed below.

Please note that it is not possible to earn partial ECTS points for individual sessions. For example, if you submit proof of active participation in a total of 11 sessions, you will receive 2 ECTS credit points. You can count the one extra session the next time you meet the participation requirement again, if you would like to collect additional ECTS point(s).*

BEMC Talks

To earn ECTS, in addition to attendance, students must submit a 250-word summary of the key points from each Talk attended, using the BEMC Talk Summary Form (see the form for details).

BEMC JClub

To earn ECTS, in addition to attendance, students must submit at least 2-3 thoughtful questions by 4pm Berlin Time on the Monday before each meeting they plan to attend, using the BEMC Journal Club Contribution Form (see the form for details).

Once you have fulfilled the requirements above, you may claim your ECTS by emailing us at bemcolloquium@charite.de with the subject line “BEMC ECTS Credit” within two months of the last meeting you attended. In the email, please provide a tabular list of: dates, talk/article titles, and speaker/author names for all the Talks and/or JClub meetings you attended. Be sure to plan ahead and allow for at least 2-week processing time for your certificate to be issued.

*Notes: (1) We are happy to issue you participation certificates for multiple years of active participation; however, we cannot guarantee that your PhD program will accept to count ECTS credit points for multiple years of participation in the same Colloquium. Please check this with your institution ahead of time. (2) Doctoral students of other universities should consult their own university and program policies to determine whether active BEMC Talk or JClub participation (as described above) may count for credit.
